Am I Eligible for Government Energy Grants?

Government energy grants have strict but wide-ranging criteria to make sure support reaches the households who need it most. You could qualify based on benefits, income, health conditions, property type, or energy efficiency.

Qualifying Benefits

If you or someone in your household receives any of the following, you may qualify for full or part funding under schemes like ECO4 or GBIS:

  • Universal Credit (UC)

  • Pension Credit (Guarantee or Savings Credit)

  • Housing Benefit

  • Income Support (IS)

  • Jobseeker’s Allowance (income-based)

  • Employment and Support Allowance (income-related)

  • Child Tax Credit

  • Working Tax Credit

  • Carer’s Allowance

  • Disability Living Allowance (DLA)

  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

Income Thresholds

Households with a combined annual income under £31,000 may qualify even if no benefits are claimed. Child Benefit has separate income thresholds which vary by household size, for example, single parents earning under £19,900 with one child may be eligible.

Health Conditions (LA Flex Routes)

Health Conditions (LA Flex Routes)

Under Local Authority Flexible Eligibility (LA Flex), councils can approve funding for households where medical conditions are worsened by cold housing. Common qualifying health issues include:

  • Respiratory problems (e.g. asthma, COPD, bronchitis)

  • Cardiovascular conditions (e.g. heart disease, high blood pressure)

  • Limited mobility or disabilities

  • Immunosuppression or chronic illness

Property Efficiency (EPC Rating)

Property Efficiency (EPC Rating)

Your home’s energy efficiency plays a major role in grant eligibility:

  • Properties rated D, E, F or G are classed as inefficient and most likely to qualify.

  • Some schemes may also accept EPC Band C homes if insulation is lacking or outdated.

Homeownership & Tenancy

Eligibility is not limited to homeowners:

  • Homeowners qualify directly if they meet the income, benefits, or EPC criteria.

  • Private tenants can apply with landlord consent for the upgrades.

  • Landlords may apply for dedicated EPC upgrade funding to ensure their rental homes meet minimum standards and remain compliant with regulations.

Our eligibility checker reviews all these factors and our in house experts will confirm what funding is available for your household.

What Energy Grants Can I Qualify For?

Your eligibility depends on your household circumstances, property type, and energy efficiency, but we review all the main government schemes in one go. You could qualify for:

What Happens Next?

Once you’ve completed the eligibility checker, our team gets in touch within 48 hours. We’ll talk through your options, answer any questions, and confirm the basic details we need such as benefits, income, or landlord consent. You’ll also have the chance to tell us which upgrades matter most to you.

Next comes a free home survey. One of our accredited surveyors will visit your property to assess your current heating and insulation. Based on this, we’ll recommend the upgrades that will make the biggest difference, from insulation that reduces heat loss to a new boiler or renewable system that cuts your bills long term.

After the survey, we manage the full application, confirm approval, and schedule your installation at a time that works for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

We have tried to answer most questions here but if you have any other queries please feel free to contact us!

Do I need documents to complete the government energy grant eligibility check?

No, the initial check only takes 60 seconds and doesn’t require paperwork. If you look eligible, we’ll guide you on the documents needed, usually proof of benefits, a recent utility bill, or an EPC certificate (which we can arrange for you).

What if I qualify for more than one scheme?

That’s common. For example, you might qualify for insulation under GBIS and heating system upgrades through ECO4. We’ll combine options where possible to maximise the funding available to you.

How quickly will I hear back after applying?

We’ll contact you within 48 hours of submitting your details. From there, grant approvals usually take 2-3 weeks, and installations can follow soon after, often within a month.

Can landlords and tenants apply too?

Yes. Homeowners, private tenants, and landlords can all apply. Tenants will need landlord permission for upgrades, while landlords can apply directly to secure EPC funding for rental properties.

What if I don’t meet the government energy grant criteria?

If you don’t qualify under current government energy grant schemes, we’ll explain why and offer alternatives. This could include finance options for boilers, insulation, or renewable energy so cost never becomes a barrier to improving your home.

Will I have to pay anything?

Some grants, like ECO4 and LA Flex, often cover the full cost. Others, like BUS, may require a small contribution. You’ll always know upfront if any costs apply, there are no hidden fees.
