Who Qualifies for a Free Boiler Grant?
Free boiler grants through the ECO4 and LA Flex schemes are only available to households that meet specific conditions. These include the type of home you live in, the efficiency of your current boiler, and your household circumstances.
ECO4 Criteria
You own your home or privately rent (with your landlord’s permission). Social housing tenants are not covered.
Your home has a low EPC rating of D, E, F or G, showing it is energy inefficient.
Your existing boiler is non-condensing, inefficient, or broken (typically installed before 2005).
Someone in the household receives qualifying benefits, such as:
Pension Credit (Guarantee or Savings Credit)
Universal Credit
Child Tax Credit or Working Tax Credit
Income Support, Jobseeker’s Allowance, or Employment & Support Allowance
Housing Benefit
Carer’s Allowance or Disability Benefits

Properties with an existing efficient condensing boiler
Homes without gas connections, where a boiler replacement would not be suitable

LA Flex Criteria
If you don’t receive benefits, you may still be eligible under the Local Authority Flexible Eligibility (LA Flex) route. Councils can approve applications based on low income, high heating costs, or health conditions made worse by living in a cold home (such as asthma or cardiovascular issues).
